Utilities and Recovery Resources

CPS, Billing & the My Energy Portal

The State Public Utility Commission declared a moratorium on utility disconnections and temporarily restricted electricity providers from sending a bill invoice for this cycle, as the State works to come up with ways to provide relief for this last bill cycle.

The City of San Antonio will be advocating to keep local ratepayers from with being saddled with the costs of energy prices that skyrocketed as a result of the weather and shortages.

As of last Friday, the CPS Energy portal is back up and running and neighbors can again monitor their energy usage. While the autopay feature has resumed, CPS Energy has suspended billing until further notice as per the declaration of the Public Utility Commission. Individuals can apply at www.saws.org/cpr/.The repair program will be administered by SAWS until all funds are exhausted.  If you qualify for assistance, SAWS will send a plumber to your home to make repairs and restore water flow to key fixtures: toilets, faucets, bathtubs and showers. All at no cost to you.

Those interested in making a tax-deductible donation to this program can do so at www.saws.org/cpr/. For questions, please call 210-233-FIXX (3499) or email at cpr-sa@saws.org.

Federal Disaster Aid Approved for Texas

Federal disaster aid has been approved for 77 of 254 counties in Texas, including Bexar County. Bexar County and City of San Antonio residents can apply for assistance online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362 or 1-800-462-7585. The lines will be in operation seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. You can apply to get help for things like grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover.

According to FEMA, those with insurance who are applying for disaster assistance must also file a claim with their insurance company as soon as possible. FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses that are already covered by insurance, but uncovered damages may be eligible for federal aid.

While FEMA programs do not pay for fuel or cover food losses, some renters and homeowners insurance policies cover food losses due to outages up to $500. Please speak with your insurance representative to see if you are eligible. If you have immediate needs for food or shelter, you may contact 2-1-1 for local resources.
